CLD's February Soiree......takes place at the spacious Tisch Studios (111 2nd Ave, 2nd floor) where excerpts from the much anticipated Triptych, a work-in-process, will be featured. Triptych, a collaboration between members of American Virtuosi/Fusion Bande, under the musical direction of Kenneth Hamrick, composer Scott Killian and choreographer Cherylyn Lavagnino, seamlessly links three distinct movements featuring Francois Couperin’s Troisiéme Leçons à deux voix, newly commissioned music by Scott Killian and Franz von Biber’s Passacaglia into an inspirational palette of the Baroque featuring period instruments, sopranos Rachel Rosales and Tami Petty, and violinist Jane Chung. The performance will also include selections from Lavagnino’s Satie Suite inspired by Erik Satie’s Gnossiennes with Kenneth Hamrick at the piano plus enticing selections from another developing collaboration with composer Scott Killian, for Viola da Gamba and vocalist. Once again Cherylyn Lavagnino Dance offers an environment in which movement, shape and sound merge into a special fusion of the arts, a not to be missed experience. |

NYC SEASON at St. Mark's ChurchJune 25 - 30The Season will feature the world-premiere of Triptych, an evening length ballet choreographed to a three-part score. Performed live with period instrumentation, the score will comprise works by Francois Couperin, Heinrich Biber, and a new work by contemporary composer Scott Killian. The delicate lyricism of the Couperin score and the simple strength of Biber’s Passacaglia will evoke a movement vocabulary with a sense of quiet beauty and reverence, and Killian’s contemporary work will tie the two together. Choreographically the ballet will expand the use of the pointe shoe by creating a weighted, prayer-like quality that defies the usual suspended lightness of traditional balletic vocabulary.
